Love on the Spectrum is an Emmy award-winning Netflix reality TV show that follows young adults on the autism spectrum as they explore dating, love, and relationships. The show is based on an Australian version of the same name. Dave and Barry join Elaine Hall, who consults to the show and helped with casting, and with Steve and David, two autistic cast members, in a discussion of their experiences on the show, and the importance of relationships in their lives.

Elaine Hall, “Coach E”, is an internationally recognized leader and in inclusion and belonging. Her groundbreaking now evidence-based theater and film program, The Miracle Project, was profiled in the Emmy winning HBO documentary Autism: The Musical. Her memoir, Now I See the Moon, was the official selection by the United Nations for World Autism Awareness Day in 2011. As one of Hollywood’s first Access Coordinators, Elaine has provided consultation for TV and film production companies including Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Hulu, Sony among others. She is a co-founder of 1IN4 Coalition, which focuses on long-term shifts to increase employment and authentic representation of disabled people. Receiving numerous awards from autism as well as media outlets, Elaine was selected to Forwards “50 most remarkable people in America doing remarkable things in 2020” and was nominated by the LA Magazine as one of Los Angeles’ “most inspiring women who are game changers.” Hall has been featured on CNN, CBS, NPR, in the NY Times, the LA Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe, among others and has appeared in Netflix’ Love on the Spectrum, where she also consulted and coached some of the participants, and on Amazon’s As We See It. Identifying as neurodivergent herself, and the mother of a non-speaking autistic adult son, she is committed to changing the way the media portrays disability. As a keynote speaker Elaine gives audiences the ability to change their mindset, break through obstacles, and celebrate uniqueness.

STEVE SPITZ

Steve, originally from Los Angeles and raised in San Francisco, has always felt distinct from those around him, a feeling that was clarified with the recent discovery of his neurodivergence. Identifying as being on the Autism Spectrum later in life, Steve has found a sense of relief and understanding, embracing his uniqueness with newfound self-acceptance. An aficionado of Hot Rod cars and a skilled impersonator, Steve’s talents extend beyond the conventional, reflecting his diverse interests and abilities. His journey of self-discovery has not only led him to embrace his identity but also encouraged him to pursue personal growth and explore new avenues in life. Steve is passionate about the concepts of sensitivity in men, vulnerability, and self-acceptance, topics that have deeply influenced his life’s path.

DAVID ISAACMAN

David, known for his appearance on the Netflix series “Love on the Spectrum,” has navigated life with a unique perspective, courtesy of his autism. His journey on the show led him to meet Abbey, his wonderful girlfriend, highlighting his romantic side. As a triplet and someone with a profound admiration for the African male lion, David’s life is filled with interesting facets, including his ability to see numbers as colors thanks to synesthesia. This unique sensory experience adds depth to his already colorful world. Proud of his autism, David believes it’s an integral part of his identity, shaping him into the person he is today. His story is one of pride, love, and the beauty of seeing the world through a different lens.
