…and Continue the Discussion

Do you have a book or podcast club? If so, you may use this discussion guide to facilitate a conversation about this episode.

1) Lauren discusses how she always knew she was different, but the pandemic created a context where she knew she needed to explore those differences more specifically and eventually seek a diagnosis. What was different about her life pre- and then during the pandemic that created greater awareness of her challenges? Did a similar circumstance occur for you or a person you know who is neurodivergent?

2) Lauren shared early experiences in school that had a great impact on her sense of self as a child. How did some of these experiences make her feel? Did her experiences lead you to think differently about how we should treat autistic and neurodivergent children?

3) Lauren and Dave discuss how behavioral patterns that were initially viewed as challenges or as undesirable eventually became leveraged as strengths in their adult years. What do you take away from this discussion, and how can you apply what they have learned for yourself or an autistic or neurodivergent person you know?
